Mary Musgrove: She was to the colony as Pocahontas was to the Jamestown Colony. Mary was of English and Creek Indian blood. Her name was Coosaponakeesa among the Creek Indians. Her role in the history of our colony was as a means of communication between the English and the Creek Indians. Eventually she married John Musgrove and established a trading post near the Savannah River in 1717. When her husband died in 1735 she remarried Jacob Matthews and once again established a trading post at Mount Venture on the Altamaha River, she would remarry a third and final time to Rev. Thomas Bosomworth.

James Oglethorpe: He was founder of the colony and also a general. Born December 22,1696 He was the tenth and last child of Eleanor and Theophilus Oglethorpe. In 1728 one of his friend's was sent to jail for not being able to pay his debts. In the English prisons prisoners had to pay for decent room and board since his friend, Castell, couldn't afford to pay he was thrown into a cell with a prisoner who had smallpox. Castell later died from the disease, this inspired James to try to reform England's prisons. All the action he took to try to reform made him to be known as one of the most active humanitarians. All of his persuasive arguments made King George II grant him a charter for Georgia.
