Georgia has a special relationship to England unlike the other 12 colonies, Georgia was the only one to receive financial aid from parliament. Part of our colony bordered Spanish territory so part of our colony was used as a military base. Our special relationship extends even further as we were the only colony to fight with England in the War of Austrian Succession. One of our major industries was agriculture as the warm climate made it possible to grow crops all year round. The colony became a state on January 2, 1788, I guess it really was a happy new year for the colony.
Slavery was very controversial in the colony. Our founder did not want us to have slavery or alcohol. The settlers here thought we needed slaves to work for us but James Oglethorpe wanted us to do things for ourselves. That's the way it was for a while until he left for 12 years when he came back he lifted the ban on alcohol but not on slavery. Slavery wasn't legal in the colony until three years later after many complaints from the people there.
